General Questions
Is there an age requirement?
Most swimmers are ages 5 - 18. An exception can be made for younger swimmers, but they must first pass a swim test with the coaches. There are no exceptions for swimmers over 18.
What if my swimmer has never been on a team before?
That's ok! Our only requirement is that a swimmer can swim across the pool unassisted.
What practice group is my swimmer in?
We have a description of our different practice groups on our Practice Schedule page. Choose the group that you think suits your swimmer best. if the coaches think your swimmer would do better in a different group, they will move them.
How often should we go to __________?
Practices: While we have practice every weekday, you are not required (or expected) to attend every day. We are a fun-first swim team and do not take attendance. The coaches suggest that you try make at least 2-3 practices per week, but you can decide what works best for you.
Meets: Our meets are a lot of fun, the swimmers really enjoy them! You can attend as many of the meets as you'd like. Each week you'll be asked to declare for the meet (state whether or not you'll be attending) so that Coach Bryan can assign events.
What if we go on vacation?
No problem! Many of our families do. Have fun and we'll see you when you get back!
Volunteering
How much do we have to volunteer?
We ask each family to earn 13 volunteer points, with one point roughly corresponding to one hour of volunteering. You can read more about our volunteering policy here.
What kind of volunteer roles are there?
You can learn about the different volunteer roles here. If you have any questions that aren't covered you can talk to a board member or email [email protected]
My swimmer didn't go to the meets, do I still have to volunteer?
Yes, every family is expected to volunteer, regardless of participation.
Swim Meets
Do we have to go to meets?
No, but they're the most fun part of the season! We are a very low pressure, fun-first team. Your swimmer doesn't have to win to have a great time. We encourage you to try a meet, we think you'll love it!
What should I bring to a swim meet?
Be sure to bring your Dolphins swim suit and cap, plus goggles, two dry towels, water, healthy snacks and plenty of sunscreen. You can also bring chairs and/or an EZ Up to create a "home base" for your family.
Coach Bryan sends an email before every meet that includes a reminder of what to bring, and we have an All About Swim Meets Document if you have any other questions about meets
What time do meets start/end?
Meets typically start at 9:00 am and end around 2:00 or 3:00 pm. You'll be asked to arrive early for warm-ups.
There are two types of meet:
Traditional: The events alternate by age group and everyone swims throughout the whole day
Split meet: Swimmers ages 9 and above swim in the morning, usually from 9:00 am until about noon. Then swimmers ages 8 and below swim the 2nd half of the meet.
Coach Bryan will send an email for each meet with details.
